The Coast Guard received a distress message at about 1010 hrs on 19 Sep 17 from fishing boat  Joecon3 ex- Goaadrift with 19 crew onboard about  90 kms from coast of Murud Janjira.The boat was stranded view entangling of fishing net in the propeller resulting in loss of propulsion. The prevailing rough sea conditions coupled with heavy rains and strong winds in the area further jeopardized the lives of crew onboard.

    On receipt of information, Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (West) at Mumbai tasked ICGS Samratat 2000 hrs on 19 Sep 17to render assistance to the distressed fishing boat. The ship experienced extreme harsh seas and weather conditions, however, continued thorough search for the fishing boat in the area throughout the night. CG Dornier was also launched from Daman at 0700 hrs on 20 Sep 17.  The aircraft located the boatabout    75 km from land and vectored the ship to the present position of the boat. Further to augment the SAR efforts in prevailing extreme weather conditions,ICGS Samudra Prahariafter providing life saving assistance to fishing boat Seagull was also diverted to provide assistance to escort Joecon3 till Dighi port.  The boat alongwith 19 crew members was located and all crew were safe. The boat was then taken under tow to Dighi Port. The boat was handed over to fishing boats arranged by the ownerat Dighi port at about 0820 hrs on 21 Sep 17. The family members of the boat crew at Goa have expressed their gratitude to Coast Guard for saving the lives of their loved ones.
    
Concurrent Search and Rescue operations of fishing boats in distress undertaken by Indian Coast Guard ships in extreme trying conditions for the humanitarian cause and saving of 33 precious lives in a day reflects of  fishermen at sea being in safe hands.
